Museu da Caricatura Brasileira

The Brazilian Cartoon and Caricature Museum, the only institution of its kind in the country, was inaugurated on December 18, 2024. It is the largest museum dedicated to this theme in Latin America, encompassing 1,000 square meters and 12 exhibition rooms distributed across three floors.

Located at 22 Primeiro de Março Street, in Downtown Rio de Janeiro, the museum periodically receives and exhibits the private collection of more than 100,000 items belonging to historian, collector, and caricaturist Luciano Magno (the artistic name of Lucio Muruci), author of the book History of Brazilian Caricature and President of the Museum.

The Brazilian Cartoon and Caricature Museum, an artistic complex that is part of the City of Rio de Janeiro’s Reviver Cultural program, presents historical and contemporary exhibitions featuring works by important caricaturists from the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century—such as J. Carlos, Calixto Cordeiro, Raul Pederneiras, Luiz Peixoto, Seth, Alvarus, Fritz, and Nair de Teffé—as well as renowned artists from the contemporary phase of caricature in Brazil.

Housed in a historic building in a region considered the birthplace of the City of Rio de Janeiro, the museum also offers a beautiful view from the second-floor balcony. Its spacious rooms and the uniqueness of its artistic and historical collection make it an excellent filming location.
